Shield of Faith Story

Before going to Afghanistan, I received a small shield charm from a family friend Peggy, who has prayed faithfully for me since joining the Marine Corps and decided that I would wear it until I came home. The shield read "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9.  Before I actually pushed out to my site, I found that my small charm was missing. I looked for it for about an hour, and decided that it was lost somewhere on Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. About 2 weeks later, I was at the new site, and I was walking from my tent to start my shift. Something half-buried in the dirt caught my attention so I stopped and picked it up. I was stunned when I realized what I had just found. It was the same shield charm with the same verse etched on the back, only this time it was 4 times the size and was on a much sturdier, durable chain. I knew it was a sign from God letting me know that he really is with me no matter where I go and no matter what danger I may be facing.
